"Wattstax" to dokumentalny film o festiwalu muzycznym Wattstax, który odbył się w Watts (coś w stylu dzielnicy Los Angeles) w 1972 roku. Na festiwal zjechały takie gwiazdy jak Isaac Hayes, Melvin van Peebles czy Rufus Thomas. Festiwal zorganizowała wytwórnia Stax Records, która wypromowała m.in. Earth Wind and Fire, The Isley Brothers, Sly & the Family Stone. Bilety na ten słynny festiwal kosztowały zaledwie po 1$! Pomiędzy występami gwiazd festiwalu pojawia się m.in. Richard Pryor oraz inni mniej znani Afroamerykanie, którzy opowiadają o swoich doświadczeniach w USA.
